Security consultant from FortConsult awarded gold certification in wireless security
The demand for security services is more or less unaffected by the current economic crisis, according to Denmark's biggest security firm within the field of security tests and security consultancy. With record sales in Q4 2008 - and again in Q1 2009 - 2009 looks like being FortConsult's best ever year. Greater international focus is in the offing.

2008 was the year in which FortConsult made preparations to enter the enterprise's next phase with a strengthened organisation and a foundation for international expansion. Investment took place in terms of new services, support functions, management tools, sales representatives and, not least, highly capable IT security consultants, several of whom are from abroad. Ulf Munkedal, Managing Director of FortConsult, states: "2008 has been a busy and exciting year for FortConsult. It has thrown up many challenges, but has boosted us from being a small, entrepreneur-type enterprise to being in a position to take on the major competitors on the international stage. The result on the bottom line was not as good as in 2007, but we are very satisfied." Profits in 2009 are expected to reach twice the 2008 figure.

In 2008 FortConsult achieved a turnover of DKK 20.8 million, and returned a profit before tax of DKK 1.4 million.

Solid demand
Optimism at FortConsult is due not only to the rapid development that the enterprise underwent during 2008: sales results in Q4 2008 and again in Q1 2009 have been record high and, according to Ulf Munkedal, are due to a combination of the boost to the sales organisation and solid demand from customers. "We were a little anxious to see how our customers would react to the crisis, but it has been good to see that a large percentage of them have not made cuts in their investments in security, even though they have been forced to make savings in other areas. A few businesses have put off the decision as to whether to make new security investments until the crisis has blown over, but to a great extent this has been outweighed by the fact that other companies have begun to apply increased focus to their security", says Ulf Munkedal.

International focus
By putting new initiatives in place in 2008, FortConsult is ready to continue its stable growth on the Danish market at a rate of 20-25 percent per year. This will be accompanied by an increasing degree of international focus, where markets such as Norway, Sweden, Russia and Portugal represent perhaps the most exciting opportunities at present. "In Portugal, for instance, we have won major contracts with the two biggest enterprises within the field of payment card security - and there are many other exciting jobs on the horizon", explains Ulf Munkedal, who is looking forward to FortConsult being able to acquire even more international experience.

In 2008, international sales represented 16 percent of total sales, and by 2010 FortConsult expects to secure a two-fold increase in sales to customers outside Denmark in relation to the 2009 figure.
